FAQs

Compatibles

A compatible ink cartridge or toner that has been manufactured in the same way as an “OEM” (Original Equipment Manufacturer). They are to the same specification, are tested to stringent quality controls, and have the same print quality and the same capacity as originals. They are invariably much less expensive.

Remanufactured or Refilled

Cartridges or toners that are collected or recycled, cleaned and refilled – and will work in the same way as originally.

In the same way that car manufacturers would like you to use their own-brand expensive parts, so would the printer manufacturers : but they cannot legally enforce it.

Page yields are estimates only from the manufacturers, usually based on a 5% coverage, and will obviously vary according to usage.

Solutions not problems

Most problems can be overcome with a few simple procedures.

Check again that you have the correct cartridge or toner for your machine.

Check again that it is correctly installed and seated – some cartridges need a little extra pressure to click in.

Clean the contacts or chip with a soft dry cloth.

Run the printer’s head-cleaning routine a couple of times, which gets the ink flowing and clears any minute blockages.

Turn off your printer, unplug it, pause, plug it in again and turn it on. This often clears the memory and resets the machine for working again.

In rare circumstances, you may have to do this one by one if installing more than one cartridge. It can happen that a compatible might have a faulty chip, and the printer will reject all four. We will always replace one we have supplied if you get this far.
